This is one of two of my entries in the Sierra Arts Quarantine "Q Show." It is a photograph of what I have been working on before and during the Covid 19 Quarantine. How I explain the unique colors captured on film in the Mandalas created with a micron pen, colored pencils and computer manipulated: "At a certain time of the day a rainbow fell onto my drawing area and I took a photograph where the light hit the image best. The rainbow colors altered the colored pencil in a way that I felt enhanced the Mandala." Rainbows are a spiritual symbol of hope, and encouragement - a reminder that if you can just endure a little longer, you will make it through the storm and come shining through on the other side. A sign of a rainbow also holds promises of new knowledge and truths. This is the feelings I have when creating my Mandala and the description Sierra Arts requested each artist explain about their work: "There is no place to run! No place to hide. Even my home as my sanctuary is being threatened. The drawing of Mandala’s are how I calm my mind, body and spirit in these times of turmoil, uncertainty and despair. In my world of drawing and coloring I feel safe. I have control of the outcome. Mandala’s are found to be spiritual tools used for centering the mind and finding balance between the inner and outer world. When drawing I find I am able to relax and experience a feeling of peace and contentment, while being in the moment. This moment is the only control I have over the situation, any situation. I am still perplexed as to the outcome of all this we are experiencing, and how it will effect me and those I care about and love, and how our planet will survive and where this experience will take us all. My only hope is for us to learn from this time and grow into a better place of being. This piece is on Exhibit and Sale in the Gallery at Sierra Arts in Reno, NV. A percentage of the proceeds go to fund programs of Sierra Arts in the region.

This little jewel of a Smudge piece of mine, of El Capitan in Yosemite is in the “America the Beautiful” Show taking place now until the end of July at the Wilbur May Museum Reno, NV. It’s one of three of my entries into the Latimer Art Club Artown Exhibit and Sale. Latimer Art Club.  Earlier this month I dropped off several of my Smudge works for sale at Prism Gallery Carson Valley’s Premiere Gallery, representing award-winning artists from the Northern Nevada and Sierra Nevada Regions. My work will be up until the end of the July. This is an image I created in my Oil Pastel Smudge technique. We are in the middle of a pandemic and wearing a mask and social distancing is a must to get though these challenging times. Please be part of the solution. We will all get thought this if we work together! Stay safe and healthy!  For some odd reason I feel this was appropriate as it is July 4th. A different celebration being held everywhere in the United States. I love the land of the free and the home of the brave! Right now, getting away from everything Covid 19, I think of my garden, sanctuary and butterflies. Freedom! How it can be taken away in a moment. That being said, stay healthy, wear a mask in public and social distance where you feel it is necessary. We can only get though this time together! Drawing and writing positive words beautifully has helped me to stay calm, focused and aware of the future I wish to bring into the world.  |
